If you love downtown life, heritage charm and being close to the water, New Westminster is for you! As the oldest city in Western Canada (and previously the capital of B.C.), this “Royal City” is a cool mix of old and new. It is situated along the Fraser River and has lots to offer.
The city’s vibrant and Historic Downtown has an urban feel with tons of high-rise and low-rise condos. Columbia Street, the main strip, is lined with cute boutiques, coffee shops, restaurants and bars. Downtown also offers a unique waterfront experience with a beautiful boardwalk along the Fraser River, The River market and other businesses. As you walk along Front Street, you’ll also experience the city’s history with its old buildings and railroad tracks.
If you venture out of downtown you’ll discover New Westminster’s other neighborhoods, such as New Westminster East (The Heights, Sapperton, Fraserview, Brunette); New Westminster West (Glenbrooke North, Queen’s Park, Uptown, Moody Park, West End, Connaught Heights); and Queensborough. One of the city’s most beautiful and signature communities is Queen’s Park, which is surrounded by beautiful heritage homes. Whether you’re looking for urban life, character homes or something more quiet, New West has lots of options!
New Westminster is ever expanding. The city has undergone major revitalization over the last 15 years and continues to grow. Despite its growth, it is still affordable which makes it an ideal city for individuals and young families. It is also centrally located in Metro Vancouver and close to Highway 1, so it is a perfect hub if you still want to be close to Vancouver. Even if you don’t drive, the city has a great transit system with 5 skytrain stations.
